Exams & Preparation

Performing a wide range of ultrasound diagnostics; Abdominal, Cardiac, Thoracic, Urinary, Pregnancy, and Ocular.

  • Abdominal

This study focuses on intra-abdominal organs. Images will be obtained of the liver, gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas, adrenals, kidneys, bladder, spleen, colon, small intestines, lymph nodes, prostate and vessels. Fasting is required for 12 hours prior to the exam. Patient's bladder should be emptied 2 hours prior to the exam and not again until after the exam.

  • Cardiac

Routine cardiac images and measurements will be obtained. Colour doppler and m-mode tracings will be documented. This test includes reporting of a cardiac ultrasound by a veterinary cardiologist. X-Rays can also be submitted for an additional charge. Report includes recommendations for cardiac medication and anesthesia.

  • Non-Cardiac Thoracic

This should be requested when a mass is identified on a thoracic radiograph. Cardiac measurements will not be performed. For best results the thoracic radiograph should also be sent to the radiologist. Please note that aerated lung and bone sometimes makes it impossible to see chest masses with ultrasound.

  • Urinary

This study focuses on kidneys, bladder, non pregnant uterus, prostate and ovaries. Patient's bladder should be emptied 2 hours prior to the exam and not again until after the exam. NO FASTING is required. This is a limited ultrasound exam and is not recommended for senior animals. A complete abdomen should be performed on senior animals.

  • Pregnancy/Reproductive

This study should be performed between 28-35 days gestation. This test includes confirmation of pregnancy, approximate fetal count, and fetal viability.

  • Limited Study or Small Parts

This test is offered for a single organ follow up of an abnormality previously documented on ultrasound. It can also be requested for superficial lumps.

  • Ocular

This test is used to rule out abnormalities of the anterior chamber, ciliary body, posterior chamber, vitreous body, lens and retrobulbar area. Sedation is usually required - please fast appropriately for sedation.

  • STAT

STAT echoes will be read by a radiologist and should only be ordered to check for a pericardial effusion/mass. STAT cardiac exams that require a full cardiologist workup and medical management recommendations should be referred to the appropriate ER facility.
